Outreach Programs
For the 2007/2008 School Year, the New Hampshire Political Library offers the following outreach programs to classrooms and organizations across New Hampshire:
- Discover mid-19th century life through Franklin Pierce and his family
Using the life and family of President Franklin Pierce, this program encourages an examination of life in the mid-19th century by using multiple hands-on objects, reproduction primary source materials, and historic photographs.
- The New Hampshire Presidential Primary
This program explores how the New Hampshire Presidential Primary is unlike any other primary in the country in how it allows New Hampshire citizens to participate in the national political process. The program explores the process through photos, political cartoons, and hands-on political memorabilia. The program can also be tailored to emphasize how to look at and interpret the color, symbols, and messages found on historic and contemporary political buttons, bumperstickers, and posters.
- Political Cartoons as Primary Sources
By examining American cartoons from the 18th century to the present day, participants will learn how cartoonists use humor to convey their opinion about major issues of the time period. This program may be customized to specifically reflect political cartoons about the New Hampshire Presidential Primary.
Outreach programs cost $60 per group or classroom. A discount of $10 per classroom is offered if more than one classroom in the same school is scheduled for the same day. Program duration is flexible based on individual class schedule.
All outreach programs meet expectations within the revised New Hampshire Social Studies Framework in the Civics & Government, Geography, and NH/US History strands. To schedule an outreach program please contact Lori Fisher, Director of Programs & Collections, at (603) 225-4617, extension 10, or e-mail lfisher@politicallibrary.org.
